En 1892, la délégation du Parti Révolutionnaire de Cuba à New York décide de la fabrication de monnaies. Pour des raisons juridiques, le mot “PESO” a été remplacé par le mot “SOUVENIR”. La modèle a été réalisé par Philip Martini. La fabrication a été faite en trois fois en 1897 avec en total de 10.000 exemplaires. Cette monnaie a été frappée à Providence dans l’état de Rhode Island.
