Cette médaille fait suite à la quatrième insurrection des Voraces lors du soulèvement de juin 1849, en écho au soulèvement des républicains parisiens (13 juin 1849). Ils ne seront pas soutenus par la population et durement réprimés à la Croix-Rousse par l'armée.

Louis-Napoleon was elected on December 10, 1848 as the first President of the Second Republic. He did not have the right to run again in 1852.
