Monnaie sur un flan épais, un peu ovale, avec un droit assez mou mais un beau revers malgré une patine finement concrétionnée et peu photogénique. Un défaut de surface est à signaler sur la joue au droit

Ce type 2c de la série D se divise en deux, selon que le poids est lourd ou léger ; avec 1,14g, cet exemplaire est plutôt lourd, même s’il semble être de mauvais aloi.
Le style est encore assez bon, avec un A bien net derrière la nuque.
D. M. Metcalf fait remarquer qu'il existe des copie difficile à reconnaître et que certaine monnaies officielles ont pourtant un style très “pauvre”.
Ce denier probablement frappé à Domburg, est repris comme “Continental runic type”.

Cet exemplaire est assez proche du n° 161 d’Oxford, avec ce style de droit.

ENGLAND - ANGLO-SAXONS

(7th - 8th centuries)

If the minting of these coins is to be located at the beginning of the 8th century, in Great Britain, it is not exceptional to find them in Gaul. They are often confused with Merovingian silver coins (cf. MONNAIES XIX, n° 503, sceattas c. 680-710, classified in Merovingian denier of Laon). During the 8th century, the style of these pieces is more and more degenerated, they are often in ridge or filled. These coins disappeared from circulation in the second half of the 8th century.
