The city of Corcyra was founded by Corinthian settlers. It was located on the island of the same name about twenty kilometers from the coast of Epirus. Corcyra emancipated from his mother early in the sixth century BC The island followed the fate of the city until 338 BC, when the capture of Corinth by Philip II of Macedonia. In the third century, after resisting Rome, the city fell in 229 BC between the Romans and enjoyed a degree of autonomy until 48 BC.
