Cette monnaie est la seconde monnaie commémorative consacrée aux Native Americans, c’est à dire aux nations indiennes d’Amérique du Nord. Chaque année, parallèlement aux quatre émissions des présidents des États-Unis d’Amérique, une monnaie différente sera émise sur ce thème.
Cette monnaie rapelle la confédération des cinq nations Haudenosaunee (iroquoises). Selon la légende orale, Hiawatha symbolisé par sa ceinture aurait réuni les cinq nations Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga et Seneca, représentées par les flèches.
