Potin d’un type très rare. Les exemplaires d'Évreux sont dans un trop triste état pour établir des comparaisons de moules pertinentes. Certaines monnaies visiblement appartenant à une même série sont décrites comme des bronzes frappés ou comme des potins ; avec cet exemplaire, il n’y a pas d'ambiguïté sur la nature coulée de cette monnaie !.

GALLIA - AULERCI EBUROVICES (Area of Évreux)

(2nd - 1st century BC)

The Aulerci were subdivided into three tribes: Aulerci Diablintes, Aulerci Cenomani and Aulerci Éburovices. The territory of Aulerques Éburovices corresponds to the current department of Eure. They are quoted several times in Caesar's Commentaries. According to the latter, they would have massacred their Senate favorable to the Romans in 56 BC and would have joined the Unelles and the revolted Lexoviens. In 52 BC, they provided a contingent of three thousand men to the relief army. : Caesar (BG.(II, 34; III, 17, 29; VII, 4, 75; VIII, 7). Kruta: 72.
