评论

Sur cet exemplaire, comme sur celui de MONNAIES XIX n° 456, la légende est conforme à celle proposée par B. Fischer dans le RIG. Les trois lettres EPL y sont en effet bien nettes, de même que le sanglier enseigne. Certains aimeraient y voir la légende EBV pour Eburovices.

GALLIA - AULERCI EBUROVICES (Area of Évreux)

(2nd - 1st century BC)

The Aulerci were subdivided into three tribes: Aulerci Diablintes, Aulerci Cenomani and Aulerci Éburovices. The territory of Aulerques Éburovices corresponds to the current department of Eure. They are quoted several times in Caesar's Commentaries. According to the latter, they would have massacred their Senate favorable to the Romans in 56 BC and would have joined the Unelles and the revolted Lexoviens. In 52 BC, they provided a contingent of three thousand men to the relief army. : Caesar (BG.(II, 34; III, 17, 29; VII, 4, 75; VIII, 7). Kruta: 72.
