Le coffret marron timbré d’un phénix aux ailes éployées sous une étoile à cinq branches. L’intérieur est en feutrine blanche et soie blanche timbrée du nom du fabricant : EME / S. ANAGNOSTOPOULOS / ATHENES.
Dimensions de la croix (incluant la bélière) : 59,5*57 mm ; avec la couronne et bélière de ruban : 116 mm. Poids : 45,75g. Ruban jaune orangé bordé de noir (longueur du ruban : 36 cm, largeur : 35,5 mm)
Plaque en argent en forme d’étoiles à 8 branches, un phénix aux ailes éployées couronné au centre. L’attache présente la mention EME sur la barrette. Dimensions : 74 mm. Poids : 62,04g.

Poids total avec l’écrin : 521,74g.
Cette médaille fait partie de l’ensemble décerné à Charles Picard (1883-1965), professeur d’université et archéologue. Spécialiste de la Grèce antique, il sera directeur de l’École française d’Athènes dans les années 1920, professeur d’archéologie classique à la Faculté des lettres de Paris (1934-1955), il sera également directeur de l’Institut d’Art et d’Archéologie (1937-1961). Il sera élu membre de l'Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres en 1932.
Il sera Commandeur de l’Ordre du Rédempteur (Grèce) et Commandeur de l’Ordre du Dannebrog (Danemark).

L’ordre est instauré en 1926 pour distinguer les citoyens grecs ou étrangers, en remplacement de l'ordre de Georges Ier. De 1927 à 1935, la Constitution grecque interdit de décerner des décorations aux citoyens grecs, mais l’ordre continue à être décerné à des personnalités étrangères.

This medal is part of the set awarded to Charles Picard (1883-1965), university professor and archaeologist. A specialist in ancient Greece, he was director of the French School of Athens in the 1920s, professor of classical archaeology at the Faculty of Letters in Paris (1934-1955), and director of the Institute of Art and Archaeology (1937-1961)..
