Très rare monnaie homogène, bien frappée et complète sur un flan large. Le métal est malheureusement cristallisé avec une torsion devant le visage, visible au revers devant et sous le cheval. Patine grise et granuleuse

Cette monnaie est rarissime ; c’est la première que nous proposons à la vente. Traditionnellement classée aux Parisii, dans le LA TOUR II, nous avions été plus prudents en indiquant Région parisienne. Les auteurs du Nouvel Atlas illustrent un exemplaire sur flan court mais avec une lyre devant le visage au droit. Le classement qui y est proposé va au Vexin français, sud-ouest de la Région Parisienne. Ils évoquent un peuple limitrophe des Parisii, tels que les Durocasses (peuple à qui sont parfois attribuées le rare statère LT. 7816 et les quarts LT. 7804).
Ce type de drachme est exceptionnel ! Selon le MONETA, seulement cinq exemplaires sont recensés ; le DT. 670 en collection privée, un seul exemplaire à la BN, deux exemplaires trouvés à Bû (Eure-et-Loir) et le seul exemplaire passé en vente, celui de la vente Baron du 27/11/2000, n° 2.
Dans son ouvrage “Les monnaies gauloises des Parisii”, J.-B. Colbert de Beaulieu mentionne la rare drachme LT. 7858 représentée par cet unique exemplaire en 1970. Il faisait remarquer un style armoricain.
This coin is extremely rare; it is the first one we are offering for sale. Traditionally classified as Parisii, in LA TOUR II, we were more cautious in indicating Paris Region. The authors of the New Atlas illustrate a example on a short flan but with a lyre in front of the face on the obverse. The classification proposed there goes to the French Vexin, southwest of the Paris Region. They mention a people bordering the Parisii, such as the Durocasses (a people to whom the rare stater LT. 7816 and the quarters LT. 7804 are sometimes attributed). This type of drachma is exceptional! According to MONETA, only five examples are recorded; the DT. 670 in a private collection, a single example at the National Library, two examples found in Bû (Eure-et-Loir) and the only example sold, that of the Baron sale of 27/11/2000, no. 2. The Parisii were a small but powerful people whose oppidum was Lutèce. Related to the Sénons, the Parisii and the city would have emancipated themselves from their tutelage, relatively late, after the Arverne defeat of 121 BC. The wealth of the Parisii rested on the river control of the Seine and the confluences with the Marne, Bièvre, Ourcq and Oise. César chooses Lutèce, in 53 before J. - C. to convene the assembly of the Gallic peoples. The Parisii were among the first to answer the call of Vercingetorix, the following year, in 52 BC, and they provided a contingent of eight thousand men for the relief army. Watched over by Labienus, friend and legate of Caesar, the territory of the Parisii was the scene of the last battles between Gauls and Romans. Eventually, the Aulercan chief Camulogenes was defeated and killed near Lutetia. Caesar (BG. VI, 3; VII, 4, 34, 57, 75). Kruta: 36, 40 46, 68, 365, 368.
