历史细节

HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - HANAU-MÜNZENBERG - PHILIPP MORITZ

(25/08/1605-3/08/1638)

The Hanau-Munzenberg line, founded in 1451, died out in 1642 and passed into the Hanau-Lichtenberg line in 1642. The Hanau-Munzenberg passed in 1736 to the Hesse-Cassel family upon the extinction of the Hanau-Lichtenberg lineage. Philippe Moritz succeeds his father at the age of seven. His mother, Princess Katharina Belgica of Orange-Nassau, played the role of regent until the majority of Philippe Moritz. Serious tensions exist between him and his mother over the end of the regency, and his mother's place in government. One of the reasons which explains that the question of the regency is never liquidated, is related to the Thirty Years War. At the start of the Thirty Years' War, Philippe Moritz chose the imperial camp, in order to keep the imperial command of his city. In November 1631, Swedish troops entered the city, and Philippe Moritz changed sides. From this moment, he obtains a regiment of Swedish soldiers. After the battle of Nördlingen in September 1634, and the victory of the imperial forces over the Swedish, Philippe Mortiz decided to flee.
