Hamm is an old Hanse town currently located in North Rhine-Westphalia which was founded in 1226 by Aldolph I de La Marck. Following the War of Succession of Juliers, In 1614, the duchies of Cleves and Ravensberg, and the county of La Marck are attributed to the house of Hohenzollern, electors of Brandenburg. In 1701, the elector of Brandenburg became king in Prussia and the county became part of the western provinces of the Kingdom of Prussia. In 1807, the county was attached to the Grand Duchy of Berg and then integrated into the Ruhr department. In 1813, he returned to Prussia.
