Denier sur un flan un peu court avec des types très légèrement décentrés des deux côtés, mais bien identifiables. Patine grise un peu plus sombre par endroits

Ce type avec l’oiseau posé sur une croix, parfois confondu avec des monnaies continentales, est assez commun ; il en existe surtout un grand nombre de variantes.
Cet exemplaire, avec ces annelets et globules autour de la croix au revers, correspond aux n° 97-99 d’Oxford. Mais seul le n° 99 n’a pas d’annelet devant le front au droit.
La légende du droit est difficile à interpréter, probablement une dégénérescence géométrique (?).
This type with the bird perched on a cross, sometimes confused with continental coins, is quite common; there are a large number of variants. This example, with these annulets and globules around the cross on the reverse, corresponds to Oxford nos. 97-99. But only no. 99 does not have an annulet in front of the front on the obverse. The legend on the reverse is difficult to interpret, probably a geometric degeneration (?)

ENGLAND - ANGLO-SAXONS
(7th - 8th centuries)
If the minting of these coins is to be located at the beginning of the 8th century, in Great Britain, it is not exceptional to find them in Gaul. They are often confused with Merovingian silver coins (cf. MONNAIES XIX, n° 503, sceattas c. 680-710, classified in Merovingian denier of Laon). During the 8th century, the style of these pieces is more and more degenerated, they are often in ridge or filled. These coins disappeared from circulation in the second half of the 8th century.
