Charles de Valois is the third son of Philippe III and was born in 1270. His father gave him the prerogative of the county of Valois and he married, in 1290, Marguerite, daughter of Charles II, count of Anjou and king of Naples; this one brought in dowry the counties of Anjou and Maine. Charles de Valois also received from Philippe le Bel the counties of Alençon and Perche. He died at Nogent-le-Roi in 1325.
