ANJOU - COUNTY OF ANJOU - HENRY II PLANTAGENÊT AND RICHARD THE LIONHEART
(1151-1189-1199)
The links between Anjou and England were very close since the Plantagenets, who reigned over England from 1154 to 1485, were from this county. The county of Anjou, administered by the kings of England from 1154, nevertheless came under the king of France. In 1203, Anjou fell into the royal domain with the seizure of Philippe Auguste on the domains of Jean sans Terre. With the support of Ferdinand (or Ferrand) Count of Flanders, Renaud, Count of Boulogne and Emperor Otho IV of Brunswick, John Lackland tried to recover Anjou, Maine, Touraine, Normandy and a part of Poitou that he had lost. This attempt resulted in the Battle of Bouvines (North) on July 27, 1214 which established the supremacy of the King of France..
