Ce double thaler est frappé sur un flan légèrement voilé. Les champs du droit et du revers, ainsi que le buste de l’archiduc, présentent de petites craquelures. Les reliefs sont nets sur les deux faces et une jolie patine grise de collection recouvre cet exemplaire

AUSTRIA - COUNTY OF TYROL - LEOPOLD V

(1619-1636)

Leopold of Austria (1586-1632) was the second brother of Ferdinand II of Austria and the son of Charles of Styria and Marie of Bavaria. He entered holy orders and became Bishop of Metz, Bishop of Strasbourg and Passau, Abbot of Murbach and Lure from 1614 to 1626. In 1620, as Duke of Austria and Count of Tyrol, he began to monetize in Alsace. He left the orders in 1626 and married Claude de Médicis (1604-1648) with whom he had three children. He died in 1632.
