Cenabum was founded during antiquity. It was a Gallic stronghold, one of the main towns of the Carnutes tribe. Major trading port for the corporation of the nautes of the Loire, it was conquered and destroyed by Caesar in 52 BC. J. -VS. , then rebuilt in Roman style.
