Revers fantastique avec le même défaut de frappe qui oblitère la tête des cavaliers. Très jolie patine grise avec des reflets métalliques dorés. Poids léger. Pour ce denier, M. Crawford a relevé une estimation de vingt coins de droit et de vingt-cinq coins de revers pour deux variétés de denier D. Sear dans son ouvrage en 2000 (RCV. I) signale : “The type with TAMP monogram is of considerable rarity !”. Ce type est beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. C’est la première fois que nous le proposons à la vente. De la plus grande rareté.

The years that followed the end of the Second Punic War are sometimes poorly understood. They are marked by the conflict between Rome and Antiochus III the Great, king of Syria (223-187 AC.) and Philip V of Macedonia. Antiochus suffered several checks in Greece at Thermopylae and at sea at Corcyra before being crushed at Magnesia (190 AC.). The war spread to the whole of the East. In Italy, after their victory over the Boii, Plaisance and Cremona were repopulated by Roman settlers. In 189 BC, the Roman colony of Bononia (Bologna) was founded. Cneius Baebius Tamphilus is the praetor of 168 BC or the cousin of the latter and the son of Marcus Baebius Tamphilus who was consul in 181 BC He is the father of Marcus Baebius, the moneyer of 137 BC.
