François Fierens est originaire de Bergen-op-zoom et obtient le 24 mai 1536 la 21e prébende du chapitre de Saint-Donatius, réservé aux licenciés en droit. Le chanoine Fierens fut un bienfaiteur pour les pauvres, après sa mort, dans un testament du 22 février 1567, il laissa tous ses biens à de bonnes œuvres. L'usine de l'église devait distribuer des vêtements, du bois de chauffage, etc. aux pauvres chaque année, et la médaille, datée 200 ans après le début de la fondation, a été utilisée pour cette dispensation et a probablement été émise pour remplacer une ancienne médaille.
This is a charity token. François Fierens was originally from Bergen-op-Zoom and on May 24, 1536, received the 21st prebend of the chapter of Saint-Donatius, reserved for law graduates. Canon Fierens was a benefactor to the poor; after his death, in a will dated February 22, 1567, he left all his assets to good works. The church factory was to distribute clothing, firewood, etc. to the poor every year, and the medal, dated 200 years after the beginning of the foundation, was used for this dispensation and was probably issued to replace an older medal.
