Franche-Comté had been returned to Spain by the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle, but its definitive possession was too important for the king, with the aim or under the pretext of thwarting the plans of the Duke of Lorraine, not to seize it again.. All with one voice, and for the first time without objection, the States voted the requested allocation.. They were given a discount, as in the previous triennial, and general recognition adopted as their symbol a lion peacefully lying down and definitively defeated by the generosity of its master.. There were 200 gold tokens offered to Their Highnesses, in purses lined with Genoa satin, richly embroidered with the arms of the Condé. These scholarships were made in Paris in the first half of December 1674. For the other tokens there were three purses of pure panne leather, with crimson silk cords; seven purses of crimson velvet lined with satin, two of which bore the arms of the province and of Sir Abbot Fyot and Langeron, with double gold fillet on the folds; and the others, the arms of the province with a simple gold fillet.. There were also eighteen other velvet purses, lined with satin, with gold and silk cords, with buttons; finally, ninety simple purses lined with red leather and carrying silk cords.
