L'aérogare Sud (1957-1960) consacre une évolution marquée. Elle a été officiellement inaugurée le 24 février 1961 par le général de Gaulle10,11. Son architecture est innovante (voir infra). Pour pouvoir agrandir l'aéroport, de nombreux terrains ont été réquisitionnés, et continuent à l'être dans les années suivantes. La Nationale 7 est déviée vers l'ouest pour la faire passer juste en dessous d'Orly-Sud. Ceci permet une desserte plus rapide de l'aéroport depuis Paris.
The South Terminal (1957-1960) marked a significant development. It was officially opened on February 24, 1961, by General de Gaulle. Its architecture is innovative (see below). To expand the airport, a large amount of land was requisitioned, and continued to be requisitioned in the following years. The Nationale 7 was diverted westward to pass just below Orly-Sud. This allowed for faster access to the airport from Paris.

The Fifth Republic, whose constitution was approved by referendum on September 28, 1958 by more than 79% of French people, only officially began with the installation of General de Gaulle as president on January 8, 1959.
