Frappe médaille. Toute petite cassure de coin dans le champ à l’avers. Ce jeton fait partie de la série des Corporations, c’est très probablement une frappe postérieure mais néanmoins XVIIIe ou tout début XIXe. Ce sont les maîtres bateliers de Paris, dont les fonctions consistent à passer d'un rivage de la Seine à l'autre les passagers qui se présentent, leurs hardes, marchandises, etc... Ils furent érigés en titre d'office sous Louis XIV. et sont au nombre de vingt, y compris les deux syndics.
C’est cet exemplaire qui illustre le type dans le Guéant-Prieur.
Medal strike. Very small die break in the obverse field. This token is part of the Corporations series, it is most likely a later strike but nevertheless 18th or very early 19th century. These are the master boatmen of Paris, whose duties consist of passing from one bank of the Seine to the other the passengers who present themselves, their clothes, merchandise, etc. They were raised to an office title under Louis XIV. and there are twenty of them, including the two syndics. It is this example which illustrates the type in the Guéant-Prieur

CORPORATIONS
The bodies or corporations were groups of people dedicated to the exercise and defense of the interests and privileges of a trade. In Paris, among these bodies, a hierarchy had not taken long to form with on the one hand the six “great” bodies, then then 127 various corporations. Among the six major corps, the first was that of drapers and woolen weavers. The arms of the six corps were adopted in general assembly in 1629, and in agreement with the city of Paris, each corps adopted the ships for its arms. In order to distinguish themselves, each corps took the number of ships corresponding to its order: one ship for the drapers, two for the grocers, three for the haberdashers, four for the furriers, five for the hosiers, the goldsmiths kept their old weapons..
