L'élection présidentielle de 1848, organisée pour désigner le président de la Deuxième République française, s'est tenue les 10 et 11 décembre 1848 et s'est conclue par la victoire écrasante (74,33 %) de Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, élu au premier tour au suffrage universel, pour un mandat de quatre ans.
Il s'agit de la première élection présidentielle dans l'Histoire de France. Cette élection du président de la République au scrutin direct de l'ensemble des électeurs resta une expérience démocratique unique jusqu'en 1965.
The 1848 presidential election, organized to designate the president of the Second French Republic, was held on December 10 and 11, 1848, and resulted in the overwhelming victory (74.33%) of Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, elected in the first round by universal suffrage, for a four-year term. This was the first presidential election in the history of France. This election of the President of the Republic by direct vote of all voters remained a unique democratic experiment until 1965.

Louis-Napoleon was elected on December 10, 1848 as the first President of the Second Republic. He did not have the right to run again in 1852. Louis-Napoleon decided to make a coup planned for December 2, 1851, the anniversary of the coronation of the Eagle and the commemoration of the Battle of Austerlitz. The coup is ratified by a plebiscite on December 21 with more than 7.5 million YES and only 640,000 NO. Victor Hugo went into exile on December 12. The following year, he will publish "Napoléon le Petit" which will earn Louis-Napoleon, who has become Napoleon III in the meantime, this famous sentence: "Napoleon le Petit by Victor le Grand".
