Du 16 au 22 avril 1855, Napoléon III et Eugénie séjournent en Angleterre. Ils sont reçus au château de Windsor le 18 avril. Cette visite est un grand succès diplomatique. Le 18 août, Victoria et Albert de Saxe-Cobourg arrivent à Boulogne-sur-Mer. Aucun souverain anglais n’était venu en France depuis le XVe siècle. L’Exposition universelle se tient en même temps à Paris. Le couple royal repart le 27 août après plusieurs visites et célébrations.
From April 16 to 22, 1855, Napoleon III and Eugenie stayed in England. They were received at Windsor Castle on April 18. This visit was a great diplomatic success. On August 18, Victoria and Albert of Saxe-Coburg arrived in Boulogne-sur-Mer. No English sovereign had visited France since the 15th century. The Universal Exhibition was held at the same time in Paris. The royal couple left on August 27 after several visits and celebrations.

GREAT-BRITAIN - VICTORIA

Victoria (1819-1901) was the daughter of Edward, Duke of Kent, and granddaughter of George III. She succeeded her uncle Guillaume IV in 1837 and married her cousin Albert, Prince of Saxe-Coburg in 1840, against her mother's advice. She had nine children by him but became a widow in 1861. While respecting the rules of the parliamentary system, she tried to impose her views in the field of foreign affairs. Her favourite, Disraeli, had her given the title of Empress of India in 1876. Respected and loved, active and authoritarian, Victoria appeared in her time as the symbol of imperialist England. His reign marks the height of British power.
