L’hôtel Tambonneau, dont G. Brice a donné la description, t. 4, p. 59–60, avoit été bâti par Le Vau, et étoit l’un des plus beaux de la rue de l’Université. Le président étoit venu au Pré-aux-Clercs pour se rapprocher de Le Coigneux, son ami, (dont l’hôtel est devenu celui du ministère de l’Instruction publique) et peut-être aussi afin d’être à portée de voir de plus près et plus souvent la fille de la Dupuis, mariée à de Sacy, pour laquelle il avoit une vive inclination. (V. Tallemant, édit. P. Paris, t. 1, p. 347.) En attendant que son hôtel fût bâti, il s’établit dans la maison que Barbier, contrôleur général des bois de l’Isle de France, et l’un des adjudicataires du parc de la reine Marguerite, avoit fait construire rue de Beaune, à deux pas du pont de bois, qu’on appeloit à cause de lui pont Barbier. « Cette belle maison auprès du Pré-aux-Clercs », comme Tallemant appelle l’hôtel Tambonneau, étant terminée, il y vint avec sa femme, si connue alors par ses coquetteries de toutes sortes, et même avec les amants de madame, entre autres Aubijoux, qui, s’y trouvant bien, « y mena, dit Tallemant, d’autres gens de la cour ». La maison Tambonneau est figurée sur le plan de Gomboust ; ses jardins vont jusqu’à la rue Saint-Guillaume, en longeant sur la gauche une partie du cimetière des huguenots. La Quintinie, qui étoit précepteur du fils de M. Tambonneau, développa, dans ses magnifiques jardins, le goût qu’il avoit pour l’horticulture.

Judging by this description, taken from Édouard Fournier - Historical and literary varieties - Collection of rare and curious flying pieces (1855–1863): The Hôtel Tambonneau, of which G. Brice gave the description, t. 4, p. 59–60, had been built by Le Vau, and was one of the most beautiful on the rue de l'Université. The president had come to Pré-aux-Clercs to be closer to Le Coigneux, his friend, (whose hotel became that of the Ministry of Public Instruction) and perhaps also in order to be able to see more closely and more often the daughter of Dupuis, married to de Sacy, for whom he had a strong inclination. (V. Tallemant, edit. P. Paris, t. 1, p. 347. ) While waiting for his hotel to be built, he settled in the house that Barbier, general controller of the woods of Isle de France, and one of the purchasers of the park of Queen Marguerite, had built on rue de Beaune, a stone's throw from the wooden bridge, which was called Barbier Bridge because of him.. \\\"This beautiful house near the Pré-aux-Clercs\\\", as Tallemant calls the Hôtel Tambonneau, being finished, he came there with his wife, so well known at the time for her coquetries of all kinds, and even with Madame's lovers, among others Aubijoux, who, finding themselves well there, \\\"brought there,\\\" says Tallemant, \\\"other people from the court\\\". (Edit. in-12, t. 9, p. 155. ) The Tambonneau house is shown on Gomboust's plan; its gardens extend to rue Saint-Guillaume, running along part of the Huguenot cemetery on the left.. La Quintinie, who was tutor to the son of M. Tambonneau, developed, in his magnificent gardens, the taste he had for horticulture.
