Pierre Séguier est nommé chancelier de France en 1635 à l'instigation de Richelieu Serviteur fidèle, il saisit au Val-de-Grace la correspondance secrète d'Anne d'Autriche avec l'Espagne (1637), réprime d'une manière impitoyable la révolte des va-nu-pieds en Normandie et instruit le procès de Cinq-Mars.
