JUAN DE NOVA ISLAND
Juan de Nova Island is an island in the Indian Ocean located in the Mozambique Channel. It was discovered in 1501 by the Portuguese captain João da Nova. In 1896 it was attached to the French colonial Empire. From 1923, the island's guano was exploited. The French Company of the Malagasy Islands (SOFIM) obtained a concession which it exploited between 1952 and 1968. Since 2005, it has been administered by the prefect of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands (TAAF).
