Pietro Vito Ottoboni, was elected pope on October 6, 1689 and consecrated on October 16 under the name of Alexander VIII. Venetian by birth, he helped the Republic of Venice to fight the Turks. He reigned for a short time and was distinguished by his indulgence and kindness even if he showed nepotism.
