Annibale Sermattei della Genga (1760-1829) est le 252e pape sous le nom de Léon XII (en latin Leo XII, en italien Leone XII), de 1823 à 1829.

La tiare pontificale, appelée aussi le trirègne (en latin tiara ou triregnum), est la triple couronne des papes, à caractère non liturgique (contrairement à la mitre papale), mais cependant doctrinal car la tiare symbolise le pouvoir pétrinien donné par Jésus-Christ à saint Pierre. Quoique actuellement elle ne soit plus portée par les papes (depuis Paul VI, qui l'a coiffée en dernier), la tiare fait toujours partie des armoiries du Vatican et de l'emblème du Saint-Siège.

Annibale Sermattei della Genga (1760-1829) was the 252nd pope under the name of Leo XII (in Latin Leo XII, in Italian Leone XII), from 1823 to 1829. The pontifical tiara, also called the triregnum (in Latin tiara or triregnum), is the triple crown of the popes, of a non-liturgical nature (unlike the papal mitre), but nevertheless doctrinal because the tiara symbolizes the Petrine power given by Jesus Christ to Saint Peter.
