JAVA - BRITISH OCCUPATION
(1811-1816)
As part of the Napoleonic Wars, the island of Java was the subject of a conflict between the United Kingdom on the one hand, and France and the Kingdom of Holland on the other. British troops and those of the English East India Company (EIC) landed in 1811 and managed to defeat the Dutch. Following the ratification of the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1814, Java was returned to the Netherlands.
