Born around 380, John was a court notary of Honorius. He succeeds the latter in place of Valentinian III. The son of Constantius III and Galla Placidia found refuge in Constantinople. Theodosius II decides to restore Valentinian III and sends an army to the West to overthrow the usurper. After eighteen months of reign, Jean is deposed, mutilated, exposed and executed.
