Mattathias Antigonus is the youngest son of Aristobulus II (67-63 BC). He became king in 40 BC with the help of King Parthia, Orodes II by marching on Jerusalem, driving out King Herod who found refuge in Rome and was confirmed as king. Herod reconquered his kingdom two years later with the help of the Romans. He captured Mattathias and had him executed..
