In this novel Pierre Bastien explores the small world of the numismatists by means of fictitious characters and often imaginary facts. He depicts officials, professionals and amateurs of coins, by sticking to their psychology, being interested in their joys and their pains, their success and their failures, their ambitions and their deceptions. The conclusion is an optimist view on the future of the numismatic community. When this numismatic novel was first published, H. Huvelin wrote about it in the International Numismatic Newsletter: ``Those of you who frequented the French and International numismatic world in the sixties, will undoubtedly be tempted to put some names on the characters of this booklet. Most often in vain, by the way, as, not without malice, the author has covered the tracks and what we have got here is not a `roman à clef'. Neither a novel with a thesis, even if this mouth piece allows the author, well-known for his works on the numismatics of the Late Empire, to express his ideas on the development of numismatic research and its future, which are so dear to him.''.
