LOCRIS - OPUNTIA
(338-300 BC)
Oponte was the capital of Opontian Locrid. It was said to have been founded by Opous. It was the homeland of Patroclus and Ajax, son of Oileus. The Opontians fought with Leonidas at Thermopylae. After the victory of Chaeronea in 338 BC, the Locrians fell under Macedonian rule.
