评论

This series known as the Gallic kings is very rare; we have already offered only one KAIANTOLO bronze with the boar (MONNAIES 36, n° 1202) and two BITOYIO BASILE bronzes with the lion (MONNAIES 45, n° 914) and the bga_238706 of CELTIC 2. This example is different from all the others that we had (except bga_238706 of CELTIC II which was incomplete) and also do not correspond to legends n° 72 and 73 of the RIG, but it is very close (probably from the same obverse dies and backhand) than No. 3 by L. Villaronga! We can clearly read BITOYKOC / BACIAEY

GALLIA - SOUTH WESTERN GAUL - LONGOSTALETES (Area of Narbonne)

(2nd - 1st century BC)

This people who occupied most of the departments of Aude and Hérault is mentioned neither by Ptolemy, nor by Strabo, nor by Caesar. Their coinage is known to us only by the treasures of Béziers (Hérault) discovered in 1871 and which contained between 750 and 800 coins of Languedoc style as well as that of Moussan in the Aude, discovered in 1967 and which contained 28 drachmas of style " Languedocian".
