Scioné was located on the southern coast of the Pallène peninsula between Mendé and Cape Canastréon according to Ernest Babelon. Scioné is said to have been founded by Protesilaos returning from the Trojan War. In fact the city was founded by settlers from Euboea. The city entered the orbit of Athens after the capture of Eion in 470 BC. It paid a tribute between six and fifteen euros to the League. At the beginning of the Peloponnesian War, Scione, like the other cities of Chalkidiki, revolted against the Athenian hegemony.
