Le domaine de la couronne était tout ce que le Roi possédait à titre de propriétaire. L’une des lois fondamentales du royaume voulait que le domaine du Roi soit imprescriptible et inaliénable mais cette règle était fréquemment transgressée, grâce à des artifices destinés à répondre aux nécessités immanentes de Finances. Ainsi , en 1672, Colbert décida l'aliénation des domaines jusqu'à concurrence de 400000 livres de rente pour renflouer les Finances royales.
The crown domain was everything that the King owned as owner. One of the fundamental laws of the kingdom required that the King's domain be imprescriptible and inalienable, but this rule was frequently transgressed, thanks to artifices intended to meet the immanent needs of Finance. Thus, in 1672, Colbert decided to alienate the domains up to 400,000 livres of income to replenish the royal finances.
