评论

Interesting trians with a complete and uncaesura legend on the obverse but partially off-flank on the reverse. This type with a star on the reverse is to be distinguished from the trians with Victory holding a palm and a crown or a crown and a cruciger globe. The crown-shaped motif behind Victory would be a G; Belfort lists, in its series 9 of “gold coins imitated by Justinian”, all the letters represented on the trians, without a precise attribution to a workshop or a person being able to be confirmed.

PSEUDO-IMPERIAL COINAGE

(6th century)

Many triens imitate the type of imperial coins of Justinian I (527-565). Traditionally those with victory in profile are attributed to the Visigoths and Burgundians, those with victory in front of the Ostrogoths. The pseudo-imperial series attributed to the Visigoths are dated 417-507 for Gaul and 507-580 for Spain.
