Le revers des monnaies à la croix ne représente pas une roue, sauf rares cas (sur les série à légende latine ou encore pour les drachmes de Goutrens et de rares triangulaires par exemple). Si notre exemplaire ne présente pas la jante de la roue, la couronne de lauriers est encore plus extraordinaire et permet de restituer l’empreinte totale de ce type de revers très élégant ! !
La seule monnaie du LA TOUR ayant cette caractéristique est celle de A. de Barthélemy ; elle présente le même type de droit mais un revers limité au second canton avec sa rouelle évidée, cantonnée de quatre lunules.
The reverse of coins with a cross does not represent a wheel, except in rare cases (on series with a Latin legend or for Goutrens drachmas and rare triangular ones for example). GALLIA - SOUTH WESTERN GAUL - PETROCORII (Area of Perigueux)
(1st century BC)
The Pétrocoriens or Pétrocores whose territory extended between the Dordogne and the Vézère on the current department of the Dordogne, (the former Périgord) had Périgueux for capital. They were part of Celtic Gaul and will then be attached to Aquitaine. They appear late as the Nitiobroges at the time of the final phase of the Gallic Wars. They provided a contingent of 5,000 men to the relief army. Strabo pointed out that the Petrocores were very good metallurgists and worked iron. Sources: Caesar (BG. VII, 75, Strabo IV, 2, 2).
