Ce denier est frappé sur un flan un peu court, mais est centré des deux côtés. Le flan devait être mal préparé avant la frappe, à moins qu’il n’ait été frappé avec des coins défectueux et rouillés, ce qui expliquerait certaines zones confuses, comme la croix au droit ou dans le V du revers. Sinon, patine grise un peu terne

Cet exemplaire est frappé sur un flan plus court que le précédent, mais centré au droit comme au revers. Les deux globules sont hors flan à droite de l’M au droit, mais on peut les deviner au revers à droite du V. Au revers, on remarquera un globule au-dessus du V et un autre sous le A.

POITOU - METALUS VICUS - MELLE (Deux-Sevres)
(late 7th - 8th centuries)
The Melle workshop, in the south-east of Deux-Sèvres, was important in the Carolingian period and seems to have been in operation from the Merovingian period. The silver-lead mines are still accessible and can be visited by a wide public.
