The press was born in the seventeenth century through to the printing and communications development. In 1631, Theophrastus Renaudot Launches Weekly News called "Gazette de France" protected initially by Richelieu. The first French newspaper appears in 1771 but the great development of the press took place during the revolution (350 titles appear in 1789). Smothered under Napoleon, the press then reborn and became popular under Louis-Philippe I, where the serialized novels appear. In 1868, a liberal press law allows the creation of many titles, some of which still exist (Le Temps later became Le Monde or Le Figaro).
