Pour ce type, M. Crawford a relevé une estimation de trente-et-un coins de droit et de quarante-trois coins de revers. Normalement chaque symbole de droit est associé à une combinaison de lettres grecques au revers. Cependant les doubles lettres (X grec) sont parfois associées à plusieurs symboles (grappe de raisin, étoile ou aile). Au droit le symbole, épée dans son fourreau est aussi associé aux lettres (oméga, EE, II, MM, phi/phi et oméga/oméga). Nous avons donc une association d’un coin de droit et d’un coin de revers formant une série de 69 combinaisons. Mêmes coins que l’exemplaire du musée de Moscou (RRC. 22/1, pl. I, n° 10).

Between the capture of Taranto in 272 BC and the start of the First Punic War in 264 BC, Rome seized Rhegium in 270 BC and founded the colony of Benevento in 268 BC, while the Carthaginians imposed a garrison on Messina. The Messenians appealed to the Romans who drove out the Carthaginian garrison, the origin of the inexpiable war which was to oppose the two Mediterranean powers. The first Punic war which had started in 264 before J. - C. ends in 241 before J. - C. to the advantage of Rome. After the occupation of Sardinia and Corsica in 238 BC by the Romans, the Carthaginians seized Spain. For the first time, the Temple of Janus is closed, marking the fact that Rome knows peace.
