Ce triens est énygmatique ; appartenant à une série bien connus, il présente au revers le nom d’EVANCIVS un monétaire inconnu. Ni le Belfort ni le Moneta ne recensent ce personnage, pas plus pour Rodez que pour n’importe quel autre atelier. Cette monnaie semble donc pour le moment complètement inédite et sans équivalent connu.
Parmi toutes les monnaies illustrées dans le Belfort, seul le B. 3934 au nom d’ASPASIVS présente un rameau comparable devant le visage au droit .
This triens is enigmatic; belonging to a well-known series, it presents on the reverse the name of EVANCIVS, an unknown mint. Neither the Belfort nor the Moneta list this character, no more for Rodez than for any other mint. This coin therefore seems for the moment to be completely new and without known equivalent. RODEZ (RUTENIS CIVITAS) - Aveyron
(7th-8th centuries)
Rodez is a two-thousand-year-old city: its existence dates back to the 5th century BC. J.-C., when a Celtic people from central Europe, the Rutenes, stopped in the south of Auvergne to found one of these oppida characteristic of the Gallic civilization, that of Segodunum. Many heritage elements testify to the Romanization of Segodunum. While Christianity spread in the wake of the evangelizing action of Saint Amans, the city did not escape the troubles of the barbaric times which followed the fall of the Roman Empire. Rodez was successively occupied by the Visigoths, the Franks, the armies of the Dukes of Aquitaine and the Counts of Toulouse, as well as by the Moors, who invested it in 725 and brought down the ancient church..
