Le pilote Youri Gagarine (1934-1968) devient le 12 avril 1961 lors de la mission Vostok 1 le premier homme à voler dans l’espace et ouvre la voie à toute une génération de cosmonaute. Ambassadeur de l’astronautique soviétique, il devient un héros mondialement reconnu et adulé. Le 23 avril 1967, il perd le contrôle de son MiG15 qui s’écrase au sol, le tuant ainsi que son copilote.
Pilot Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968) became the first man to fly in space on April 12, 1961, during the Vostok 1 mission, paving the way for a whole generation of cosmonauts. An ambassador of Soviet astronautics, he became a world-renowned and adored hero. On April 23, 1967, he lost control of his MiG-15, which crashed to the ground, killing him and his co-pilot.

(1922-1991)
The February Revolution of 1917 put an end to the regime of the tsars of Russia. The Russian Republic was overthrown by the Bolsheviks in October 1917. On December 30, 1922, the treaty relating to the formation of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) was signed. Although having a head of state and a head of government, the USSR is in fact led by the leader of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, the only party authorized between 1925 and 1990. December 8, 1991 , the presidents of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus sign the Minsk Agreement which proclaims the dissolution of the USSR by its founding states.
