Quatrième fille de Pierre Von Biron, duc souverain de Courlande, Dorothée de Courlande était dotée tout à la fois d'une beauté fascinante, d'une intelligence remarquable, d'un tempérament ardent et d'une profonde culture. Sa mère Anna Dorothea, duchesse de Courlande, séparée de son époux Pierre, avait un amant, Alexandre de Batowski, nonce Polonais qui fut sans doute le père de Dorothée, née à Friedrichsfelde, près de Berlin, le 21 août 1793.

The fourth daughter of Peter Von Biron, sovereign Duke of Courland, Dorothea of Courland was endowed with fascinating beauty, remarkable intelligence, a fiery temperament and profound culture. Her mother Anna Dorothea, Duchess of Courland, separated from her husband Peter, had a lover, Alexander von Batowski, Polish nuncio who was undoubtedly the father of Dorothea, born in Friedrichsfelde, near Berlin, on August 21, 1793.
