Son of Sapor III (383-388), he succeeded Vahran IV (388-399), his uncle. Tolerant with the Jews and the Christians, Yazdgard left the image of the popular and generous sovereign. He had a conciliatory policy towards the Eastern Roman Empire. He would have died assassinated.
