Potin extrêmement rare, avec un mauvais ajustement des moules et d’importantes cassures des penons de coulée, mais parfaitement identifiable. Revers avec un faible relief. Patine brune

Ce potin semble excessivement rare et n’a pas été repris par la plupart des ouvrages de référence. Nous n’en connaissons que deux autres ; l’un avec un défaut de coulée dans une collection privée et l’autre au musée Puig de Perpignan (n° 416). C’est sans doute le cheval au pas qui a fait rapprocher ce potin des monnaies sénones LT. 7434 et 7437. Le type de droit est pourtant nettement différent !.
This potin seems extremely rare and has not been included in most reference works. We only know of two others; one with a casting defect in a private collection and the other at the Puig Museum in Perpignan (no. 416). It is undoubtedly the walking horse that has brought this potin closer to the Senone coins LT. 7434 and 7437. However, the type of obverse is clearly different!

SENONES (Area of Sens)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
The Sénons, whose name means the sages or the elders, controlled a vast territory which extended between the south of Champagne and the north of Burgundy. Their main oppidum was Agedincum (Sens) which still retains the name of the ancient civitas today. They had several other oppida like Auxerre, Tonnerre or Avallon. Divona seems to have been the principal sanctuary of the Senones. Caesar had wintered six of his legions in 53 BC at Agedincum. Labienus, Caesar's lieutenant and legate, came to settle in the region of Sens between Gergovie and Alesia in order to control the roads and protect Caesar's armies from an attack from the Belgians or the Germans. Caesar (BG. II, 2; V, 54, 56; VI, 2, 3, 44; VII, 4, 10, 11, 34, 56-59, 62, 75). Ptolemy (G. II, 8, 9).
