Childebert Ier, « Combat brillant » en vieux francique, (né vers 497 - mort le 13 décembre 558 à Paris), fut Roi de Paris de 511 à 558 et roi d'Orléans de 524 à 558.
Childebert était le quatrième fils de Clovis et le troisième des quatre que ce dernier eut avec Clotilde.
À la mort de son père, en 511, le royaume est divisé en quatre : l'aîné, Thierry en a la moitié et les trois fils de Clotilde se partagent la moitié restante. Childebert devient roi de Paris. Son royaume comprenait les cités de la future Normandie avec le Maine et le Bordelais au sud de la Loire. En 523-524, à l'instigation de Clotilde, Childebert et ses deux frères se joignent dans une expédition contre les Burgondes. Thierry Ier, ayant épousé la fille de Sigismond et n'étant pas fils de Clotilde, n'eut pas à y participer.
En 531, il déclencha une faide contre le roi arien wisigoth Amalaric, en réponse au mouchoir taché de sang que sa sœur Clotilde, femme d'Amalaric, lui avait envoyé pour lui prouver les mauvais traitements qu'elle avait à subir en raison de ses croyances catholiques. Il se rendit alors en Hispanie wisigothique, où le roi wisigoth tenta de s'enfuir par bateaux mais s'étant rendu compte qu'il avait oublié des trésors, il partit les chercher. Il se retrouva pris au piège et tenta de se réfugier dans une église mais fut transpercé par une lance avant d'avoir pu y pénétrer. Childebert récupéra les trésors d'Amalaric et ramena sa sœur mais elle mourut en cours de route. Elle fut ensevelie auprès de Clovis Ier.

He then went to Visigothic Hispania, where the Visigothic king tried to escape by boat but, having realized that he had forgotten some treasures, he went to look for them.. He found himself trapped and tried to take refuge in a church but was pierced by a spear before he could enter.. Childebert recovered Amalaric's treasures and brought back his sister, but she died on the way.. She was buried next to Clovis I.

METALLIC SERIES OF THE KINGS OF FRANCE
This series was engraved by Thomas Bernard and is interrupted, for this author, with the token of Louis XIV. The following tokens are engraved by Nicolas Gatteaux for Louis XV, Duvivier for Louis XVI, Puymaurin and Gayrard for Louis XVII, Puymaurin and Depaulis for Louis XVIII. The series is often attributed to Jean Dassier on the faith of Forrer but he corrects his assertion in his volume VIII and confirms the archives of the Monnaie de Paris which specify that the series was commissioned by Monsieur de Launay. There are different issues, in copper or brass, of varying weights but consistent by series, the reverse dies are sometimes varied. The classification of kings is done according to ancient usage, in three successive races. We note the existence of a very rare token explaining the abbreviations that we have only seen in a brass series. The packaging of this series was in a wooden tube. It is of course very difficult to reconstruct it and it should be noted that the different tokens have very different rarities, having probably been bought piecemeal by the public, favoring the good kings. There is at least one series in silver, possibly apocryphal, completed up to Napoleon III with tokens for all successive regimes, including the Revolution and Napoleon I, see MONNAIES 28, n° 1395.
