Ce poids à la forme d’un triangle équilatéral. C’est la première fois que nous proposons un tel objet à la vente. C’est un poids de la ville de Laodicée ad Mare (sur mer) coulé en l’an 29 (53/52 avant J.-C.) de la cité (ère de la cité, an 1 = 82-81 avant J.-C. et dure jusqu’à l’arrivée de Jules César en 49-48 avant J.-C). Ce poids a une histoire bien particulière. Notre déposant a reçu ce poids de la veuve d’un préfet qui avait été nommé à Lattaquié (Laodicée) représentant de la France au Liban où semble-t-il cet “artefact” ait censé avoir été découvert à la fin des années 20. Notre propriétaire, enfant à l’époque, a failli fondre cet objet historiquement important afin de couler des soldats de plomb !.
This weight is in the shape of an equilateral triangle. This is the first time we have offered such an object for sale. It is a weight from the city of Laodicea ad Mare (on the sea) cast in the year 29 (53/52 BC) of the city (era of the city, year 1 = 82-81 BC and lasted until the arrival of Julius Caesar in 49-48 BC). This weight has a very special history. Our depositor received this weight from the widow of a prefect who had been appointed to Latakia (Laodicea) as the representative of France in Lebanon where it seems this “artifact” was supposed to have been discovered in the late 1920s. Our owner, a child at the time, almost melted this historically important object in order to cast tin soldiers!
