Exemplaire sur un petit flan, bien centré des deux côtés, légèrement échancré à 5 heures au droit. Très jolie tête expressive. Revers de style fin. Patine de médaillier avec des reflets dorés

Au revers, le mollusque, décrit comme une écrevisse, est incertain. Sur cet exemplaire, la tête de Méduse bien que saisissante semble remplacée par une tête d’Apollon.

Apollonia Pontica, located on Pont-Euxin was a Milesian colony. The city was famous for its temple of Apollo and its colossal statue, the work of Kalamis. When Lucullus captured the city in 73 BC, he had the statue of the god transported to Rome.
