Selon De Bie, n° LXXXVIII, le revers est une allusion à “l’Achille françois, le Grand Henri”. César, duc de Vendôme, est le fils légitimé d’Henri IV et de Gabrielle d’Estrées. Il est né en 1594, devient duc de Vendôme en 1598. Il meurt en 1665.

VENDÔMOIS - VENDÔME
Made up of the Vendôme region and the Loir Valley, Vendômois was confiscated from the English by Philippe Auguste and attached to the royal domain in 1214. Erected as a duchy in 1515 for the house of Bourbon, it was given to César de Bourbon, natural son of Henri IV and Gabrielle d'Estrées. The duchy was definitively attached to the Crown in 1712.
